Tea party in Boston? SOLABS presents how Biotechnology companies can gain added-value.

On April 4th 2006, SOLABS presented a technology showcase seminar at Bio-IT Life Sciences Conference and EXPO in Boston, MA. The hour-long presentation explained how biotechnology companies, mainly involved in R&D, could add significant value to their businesses by shortening the time to market of their new drugs and devices. Mr Philippe Gaudreau (SOLABS COO) and Dr. John Lawson (SOLABS Marketing) shared the presentation to inform attendees on how electronic regulated process and documentation management could, rather be an on-cost imposition, release added-value that could help them to get their products to market more quickly. Although almost immediate ROI gains can be made by improving the workflow of regulated documents, strategic benefits give much larger returns but are more difficult to quantify.

Alibaba™ name to be dropped

The name Alibaba™ has been used on the SOLABS software platform since the company's inception in 1999. The decision to drop the name has, therefore, been a difficult one. Mr. Philippe Gaudreau (President and a founder of SOLABS) commented, "The name Alibaba™ was given to the original technology platform but its continued use suggested that the company is merely a vendor of software. This does not rightfully describe what we do. SOLABS has a service-based model where best GxP practices can be implemented within a robust IT framework. We can do this all the way along the drug development process from GLP to GCP to GMP. We are not just software vendors!" The company has decided to re-badge its augmented services - SOLABS GMP, SOLABS GLP and SOLABS GCP to be better aligned to the content of the solution and not the IT platform.

Merck Sharp & Dohme, a global research-based pharmaceutical company, selects SOLABS
March 2005

MSD's Ponders End facility is a key manufacturing site for the European market. According to Joanna Hills, Merck's site documentation specialist, they were managing lots of hard copies and it was very time-consuming and costly. She explained that their choice of the SOLABS technology and service offering was made because of SOLABS' plentiful pharmaceutical industry experience - a rarity, she believed, among other generic content management system vendors.

Using Alibaba™ yielded more than a 95 percent reduction of cycle time for physical workflow. And Alibaba™ entirely eliminated the labor costs associated with managing hard copies. This reduction corresponds to about a 60 to 80 percent overall reduction for cGMP document management costs.

Commenting upon the new venture Philippe Gaudreau, SOLABS' founder and CEO, said, "Merck's decision is viewed as a significant vote of confidence in the quality and performance of the SOLABS software and service offering. There are other organizations that produce generic document management software but few understand the full requirements of GxP compliance. The SOLABS team has both the experience and dedicated focus on this business segment. Our proven global implementation and support capability, we feel, will be a strong factor facilitating the roll-out of our solution for multinational companies."
